Stop by Soft Machine Gallery to view a beautiful exhibit of paintings by Philadelphia based artist, Kellianne McCarthy.  Kellianne uses paint, text and collage to choreograph scenarios that evoke feelings of disbelief, desire, beauty, humor, love, playfulness, intimacy, mystery.

The canvases are obsessively addressed with images and words on the flat plane as well as the sides, bottoms and tops.  It is apparent that Kellianne loves painting, loves color and loves language.

Kellianne states, "What I want to evoke is a feeling of place where the elements of the world we know meet bizarre, reverent spaces that make dream sense.  Strange, opulent worlds with relentless stripes, patterns, flowers and colors are lavish and startling."
-Kellianne McCarthy

"...the achievement of a million unremarkble days."
          -Jeffrey Eugenides, The Marriage Plot

Kellianne McCarthy was born and raised in Philadelphia.  She obtained a BFA from Moore College of Art and Design in 1992.  She currently works as an RN at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Emergency Department.  She lives in South Philly with her two children.
